Week of June 27th

Recommended for the week of June 27th

First off, I’d like to wish my brother, Conor, a happy 33rd birthday today.  Conor and his wife, Emmy, just had their first, a little boy named Joseph Matthew Nealon a few weeks ago.  Great news!

This past week it was nice to be back in Texas (although it’s been 100’s most days).  Saturday night was sold out at The Dosey Doe in The Woodlands, and it was a killer crowd.  The venue is amazing–it’s a 150 year old barn from Kentucky that was deconstructed and transported to Texas.  Its a large room with a high ceiling, huge beams and great balconies.  With all the wood the sound is pretty stellar–the room is almost like an instrument itself, with a warm resonance.  Very cool.

Now, for this week’s recommended listening…the new Tedeschi Trucks Band record, Revelator (released on June 7th).  It’s a masterpiece–straight up!  Susan is one of the best female vocalists around and anybody who follows Derek knows there is no end to his brilliance.  The 11-piece band includes some of the finest musicians on the planet.  Kofi Burbridge has got such great feel on the keyboards, and he delivers the goods on every track.  All I can really say is that I’m grateful that there is music like this being made right now.  The world needs it.

“All the trouble in the world, and all the disastrous results arising out of it, all come from lack of harmony. And this shows that the world needs harmony today more than ever before. … The true use of music is to become musical in one’s thoughts, words, and actions. We must be able to give the harmony for which the soul yearns and longs every moment. All the tragedy in the world, in the individual and in the multitude, comes from lack of harmony. And harmony is best given by producing harmony in one’s own life.”
